About

Anja is a London-based independent Sommelier and wine consultant with more than 15 years of experience in fine dining.

Born and raised in the Black Forest, in south-western Germany, Anja’s career started in luxury hotels. First at Hotel Bareiss in Baiersbronn, followed by Louis C. Jacob in Hamburg whose 2 Michelin starred restaurant back then had one of the biggest fine wine cellars in Germany.

A vacant Assistant Head Sommelier position at Gordon Ramsay’s Maze lured Anja to London in 2008. Following that she also gained experience in fast-paced restaurants whilst working for the Zuma group and finally was Head Sommelier at the 2 Michelin starred Ledbury for 3.5 years. During that time the restaurant was awarded 10th best restaurant in the world in the San Pellegrino 50 Best list and was also winner of the National Restaurant Awards.

In 2017 Anja started her wine consultancy, creating wine list & spirits programme for the opening of CORE, Clare Smyth’s first solo project. Since then she created several lists for restaurants and pubs.

Anja is a certified educator for the WSET and on top of creating drinks programmes, she also loves to train restaurant teams.

Wine is Anja’s number one passion, she holds the WSET Diploma in wines and spirits and prepares for her final Master Sommelier exam.
