Delegate Profile

Emma Inch

Job TitleFreelance beer writer, broadcaster & judge

Emma Inch is a freelance beer writer, judge and broadcaster based in Brighton, a vibrant seaside city on the South Coast of England. She is a member of the British Guild of Beer Writers and, in November 2017, was awarded the Maltsmiths Award for ‘Best Beer Communicator – Online’ by the Guild.

Emma has written about beer for national and international publications including Original GravityBrew Your Own Magazine and Diva. She has acted as a Taste Judge for the prestigious World Beer Awards, and has also judged beer at the Free From Food Awards, homebrew competitions and CAMRA festivals.

Emma produces and presents Fermentation Beer & Brewing Show – the UK’s only regular beer and brewing show broadcasting on FM radio. It’s a monthly, magazine-style show, covering all the very best aspects of the contemporary beer scene.

Emma is an active (and occasionally prize-winning!) home brewer, and has achieved a General Certificate in Brewing from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling. She has also gained work experience, and been involved with collaboration brews with a number of breweries. Her interest in beer therefore lies in both its creation and tasting.

Prior to becoming a beer writer, Emma had a rewarding and challenging career as a psychiatric social worker. More recently, she has worked as a university academic, and is qualified to teach in higher education. She has been published in academic journals in her ‘other’ specialist fields of mental health, sexuality and gender.

Emma has also worked as a DJ and club promoter. Through Frockabilly (established in 2009), she has promoted vintage events, specialising in rockabilly, rock ‘n’ roll and female-fronted rhythm and blues. She has produced and presented her own weekly rockabilly radio show – the only female-fronted rockabilly radio show in Europe – and has DJ’d across London and the south east, and at the Rockabilly Rave – the biggest rockabilly event in Europe.

In December 2017, Emma was interviewed by Kathy Caton on Radio Reverb’s Out in Brighton LGBTQ radio show. You can listen in to the interview right here.
