Imbibe Live is a show of many firsts, and the team is pleased to announce yet another. This year you’ll be able to try the UK’s first flavoured white rum, made using Punjabi sugarcane – it’s called Five Rivers and comes courtesy of the Sanghera Rum Company.
The time-honoured recipe has been produced by the Sanghera family over 150 years. The namesake of this premium white flavoured rum harks back to its origins in Punjab, India, translated to mean the ‘land of the five waters’.
At the foothills of the Himalayas, five rivers travel across the Punjab plains to enrich the soil home to the finest Indian ‘Gur’ (sugar cane), producing a rum infused with the natural flavours of the land. After a careful distillation it’s infused with orange and green grape – it promises to be a versatile addition to the back bar, designed for sipping neat but great for mixing too.
‘I’m honoured to bring my ancestors’ recipe to the market. Back home in India people love rum, so it’s good to introduce an Indian-inspired recipe to the mix. The rum enjoyed back home has a distinctive style I’m really excited to be able to make it available in the UK,’ said Taj Sanghera, entrepreneur and founder of Sanghera Rum Company which produces Five Rivers.
