Thomas Dakin Story

As usual, there’s more masterclasses than you can shake a barspoon at inside Olympia at Imbibe Live. But the fun doesn’t stop there.

Thomas Dakin will be hosting masterclasses from its vintage truck, parked right outside. Alix Walker, Thomas Dakin gin curator, will be hosting masterclasses on ‘A History of Gin’ according to Thomas Dakin - the forefather of quality English Gin.

Organised by Marblehead Brand Development, Alix will hold three masterclasses each day on 3 and 4 July at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm on their stand. This includes a Tom & Tonic signature serve sample and a gin tasting and history lesson on all things gin and Thomas Dakin. To book your spot on either day, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. ‘Manchester has had many world firsts. The first industrial city, the first railway, the first computer and the first canal was built in 1761. Also, in 1761 Thomas Dakin opened what is now the oldest gin distillery business in the UK. This year, Thomas Dakin Gin will make its first trip down to Imbibe Live with our grand old vintage delivery truck,’ said Alix.

Thomas Dakin Gin is a classic style small batch single London Dry Gin handcrafted in small batches using the finest botanicals and inspired by Thomas Dakin, a young entrepreneur who, at the age of 25, began distilling his gin in the north of England.

Handcrafted in a baby copper pot still, Thomas Dakin is a traditional juniper-led gin with notes of sweet orange and citrus and enlivened by an infusion of distinctive red cole (horseradish), a root botanical used in refreshing cordials in 18th century northern England, which gives the gin its long, lingering finish.
