Is beer the new wine? That is the question beer sommelier Ed Hughes will be asking during his high-end food-and-beer-matching masterclass at Imbibe Live.
In a session that will have you swapping red wine for red IPA and port for porter, Hughes will lead you on a journey of discovery, taking you through the hoppy minefield and out the other side so you can create exciting pairings for the 21st century beer drinker.
With more incredible varieties of craft beer available than ever before, the possibilities are endless, so it’s only right that someone with a wealth of beer experience like Hughes guides you through the interactions between beer flavours and food components, arming you with the knowledge to help create the best matches for your customers.
Hughes, from Cornwall, began his passion for beer while managing bars in Nottingham, and was inspired during a trip to Belgium, by the pride and care Belgians take in beer service. Fast forward a few years and he is now responsible for customer and consumer at Sharp’s Brewery, the home of the UK’s best-loved cask beer, Doom Bar. He provides tastings and demonstrations, working with top chefs around the country, and also judges world-leading beer competitions.
