Imbibe Live 2017 - Thinking Drinkers return for worldwide beer talk

Thinking Drinkers return for worldwide beer talk

events.jpgBack by popular demand, Thinking Drinkers will return to Imbibe Live on Monday 4 July, to deliver one of the show’s most highly-anticipated sessions – Around the World in Six Beers.

The talk and tutored tasting presented by the Thinking Drinkers, Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham, will be an unmissable session for those Imbibe Live visitors interested in the beer programme.

The Thinking Drinkers evolved from the idea that in an era when drink and drinking is increasingly seen as a social problem, the concept of ‘drinking less, drinking better’ remains a potent one.

Two of the UK’s leading and most respected experts on all aspects of alcohol, Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham met in their 20s when they co-wrote the award-winning “Good Beer Guide West Coast USA”.

As leading drinks journalists, they contribute to a wide range of magazines and newspapers including Esquire, Jamie Oliver Magazine, The Guardian, Time Out London and an array of drinks industry titles. They also write a weekly drinks column for The Daily Telegraph.

Together they wrote and performed “The Thinking Drinker’s Guide to Alcohol”, which debuted at the world- renowned 2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and, following sell-out shows and excellent reviews, it has returned every year since then. The show also ran at the Arts Theatre, the Soho Theatre (twice) in London’s West End, the Cheltenham Literature Festival and it successfully transferred to Madrid, Spain.

As writers, Ben McFarland is the triple-crowned “British Beer Writer of the Year” – the first as the youngest ever recipient. He is the author of the award-winning “World’s Best Beers: 1000 Unmissable Brews from Portland to Prague” and the recently published (September 2013) Boutique Beer: 500 of the World’s Finest Craft Brews” (both published by Jacqui Small) - “The new book rocking the world for beer lovers"  Metro

Tom Sandham is former editor of leading industry spirits and cocktail magazine CLASS. He launched the Top 50 Bars of the World and House Tonic for the Soho House Group. He is also the author of the award-winning World’s Best Cocktails (named as one of the Daily Mail’s top drinks books of the year).

As well as running a successful drinks consultancy business, they have been instrumental in launching “Hobo Beer”, a craft beer in a can and they are also behind the award-winning collaborative brew “Boilermaker” with the Welsh brewer SA Brains.
